Melnyczuk Research & Development

Consulting to the food industry


Melnyczuk R&D originally evolved from an association between Mikhailo Melnyczuk and various academic institutions. Now working independently, Melnyczuk R&D Training projects have included workshops in product formulation, meat manufacturing techniques, basic sensory evaluation and related disciplines.

Quality inspection and arbitration projects are also undertaken.

Mikhailo Melnyczuk is also involved in collaborative ventures with the University of Stellenbosch, the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and several commercial firms.

Past & present

In the past, Melnyczuk R&D contributed to research and development in food industry sectors as diverse as processed meat, snackfoods, special dietary products, canned foods, instant foods and beverages. Projects usually required strict confidentiality, as new formulations often became the property of the client which requested the development of a product or product range.During recent years, Melnyczuk R&D has undertaken research into entirely new techniques and technologies, developing and patenting globally applicable solutions for large-scale problems in specific areas such as production waste and by-product utilisation. The aim has been to produce products which match or improve on known products, so as to enable licensees of these technologies to enter or compete in existing markets.
